back in march me and my partner traveled to Colombia for two weeks. it was a beautiful trip and a significant one for her in particular: she is actively working on connecting with her Colombian roots, crossing a generational divide in the process. it was special to be there with her, her journey of connecting with her family and history is something that i could relate with. as the son of a German immigrant, not growing up with much notion of that culture or language, I was keenly familiar with the potency of getting to know relatives, stories, sights and flavors that were not a part of one’s fabric growing up. it’s an important bridge to cross if one wants to, and it personally helped me to fill in gaps that I wasn’t even aware existed.
