back in march me and my partner traveled to Colombia. it was beautiful, and a significant trip for her in particular because while there she worked on connecting with her Colombian roots, crossing a generational divide in the process. it was special to share in that with her, the journey of connecting with family and history was something that i could relate to. as the son of a German immigrant, not growing up with much notion of that culture or language, I was familiar with the potency of getting to know the relatives, stories, sights and flavors that were not a part of one’s fabric growing up. crossing that bridge personally helped me to fill in gaps that I wasn’t even aware existed. but Colombia though...it’s a very special place.
